Hands-on façade fabrication workshops

Students in the modules MID S4 – Climate and Comfort and MID S5 – Planning, Detailing and Production participated in the workshops held at Schüco´s Test & Training Center in Bielefeld during the summer and winter semesters, focusing on mullion-and-transom systems and unitized construction. The continuity of the bi-annual workshop was interrupted after the lockdown of 2020, but in October 2021 the activity was resumed hosting a new group of master students.

The sessions are instructed by specialists in production processes at the company, starting with a theoretical overview of façade systems, detailing, production and innovation. Then, a tour to the training center allows students to see specialized machinery in action. Finally, a hands-on fabrication workshop where students assemble a façade mock-up, getting familiar with its components and the processes of gluing and crimping profiles, installing gaskets and glass panels.
